Landesärtzekammer Hessen (Lindley Quartier)
Frankfurt am Main
The design concept for the new headquarters of the State Medical Association aims to integrate the building into its surroundings while also giving it clear structure and distinct visual identity.
The starting points were the location and function. Design elements such as light-dark contrasts and the clinker façades of neighboring buildings are reinterpreted to create a unique identity. The structure, which represents approximately 36,500 physicians, aligns with the urban layout and derives its shape from functional requirements and user needs. A blend of restraint and representational character with openness and distinctiveness defines the building. The entrance hall and event spaces on the ground floor feature a folded concrete band that conveys architectural presence. This continues in the upper floors with the layered slabs and culminates in the roof story, home to the presidency, with a striking folded design. The five main floors appear as calm horizontal bands, alternating full-height clinker pillars and windows. Unlike industrial associations with red brick, the dark clinker references more representative forms of brick architecture.
